과르디올라 감독은 10년이 지나면서 동기 부여와 에너지가 소진된 상태라고 털어놨다. 그는 “앞으로 매일, 혹은 사흘마다 선수들 앞에 서서 우승을 위해 싸울 에너지가 내게 남아 있지 않다고 느꼈다”며 “10년이 지난 지금, 변화를 주고 새로운 얼굴을 맞이하는 것은 모두에게 좋은 일”이라고 밝혔다. 이어 “그렇게 믿지 않았다면 구단이 경질하지 않은 한 이곳에 남았을 것이다. 하지만 지금이 (떠나기에) 완벽한 시기이자 완벽한 타이밍이라고 생각한다”고 덧붙였다.
